For most students, choosing a university doesn’t start with a ranking table. It starts with a course.
What you want to study. How that subject is taught. What it could lead to next.
That instinct is right. A degree is a commitment of time, energy and finances. It needs to fit you, not just look good on paper.
Where you live shapes how you feel day to day.
Not just practically, but emotionally.
Feeling accepted at home isn’t about grand gestures. It’s about small, everyday moments. Being able to relax. To show up as yourself. To not second-guess how you’re perceived in shared spaces.
That matters all year round. But during LGBT+ History Month, we like to hit pause and remember why it matters so much.
Home should feel like a place you can be yourself
Support doesn’t always look like banners or big statements. Often, it shows up in quieter ways.
Living somewhere inclusive means those moments are part of everyday life. You don’t have to explain yourself. You don’t have to correct people. You can just exist.
Why LGBT+ History Month matters
LGBT+ History Month exists because this incredible community hasn’t always been accepted. It celebrates and remembers people who pushed for visibility, safety and the freedom to live openly.
For many students today, that history can feel distant. But the ability to feel safe at home, to be yourself in shared spaces, and to live without constant self-monitoring is built on that progress. Remembering it helps make sure it isn’t taken for granted.
Bringing people together through shared moments
Throughout February, we’re hosting Queer Trivia Nights across all YourTRIBE sites. They’re hosted by our favourite and regular event host, Christina Draguliera, follow on Instagram – londondragqueen.
These events are one of our most popular, seeing every come together for an evening of non-stop laughter and fun, with lots of prizes, epic music and drinks on us.
Community, shaped by the people who live here
Our community is shaped by the people who live here. A huge thank you to our LGBT+ residents for helping shape the incredible community we have in all of our homes.
Creating an inclusive environment is something we work at all year round, not just this month.
Top tip – you may like to use the YourTRIBE app to start group chats around your plans for the month. Or just as a simple way to have a chat and check in with each other. The app isn’t just for maintenance requests and parcel deliveries – there’s loads you’ll love.
