Freshers’ Week isn’t something to “survive”, it’s your launchpad into university life. London is buzzing, your new home is waiting to be explored, and the people you’ll meet could become your closest friends. Here’s how to make the most of it.

Join our Welcome Party

If you’re living at YourTRIBE, Freshers’ Week kicks off with our Welcome Party. It’s the easiest way to meet your neighbours, break the ice, and start building your new circle of friends. Think music, good food, and zero awkward small talk.

Head to the Biggest Freshers’ Fair in the UK

This year, YourTRIBE is organising trips from each site to the Freshers’ Festival at the Business Design Centre on the 20th September 2025. So, you can head there with your new neighbours and make a day of it.

The festival is packed: thousands of students, free food and drink samples, games, giveaways, discounts, job opportunities, and loads of brands to check out. It’s the ultimate student fair and a great way to kick-start your London life.

Get Involved in Societies

Uni life isn’t just about lectures. Joining a society (or two) is the fastest way to meet people who share your interests. Whether you’re into sport, drama, debate, or something niche (yes, there really is a Cheese Society at Imperial College, and Cheese & Wine Society at UCL), you’ll find your people here.

Explore Your New Neighbourhood

Freshers is the perfect excuse to explore. Spend a day mooching with no deadlines, check out the local coffee shop, grab food from a market, read a book in the local park. The sooner you know your area, the sooner it feels like home.

Balance Nights Out with Downtime

Yes, there will be parties. Lots of them. But Freshers isn’t a sprint, it’s the start of a marathon. Pace yourself, mix in movie nights and chill evenings with new flatmates, and you’ll actually enjoy the week more. We’ve got loads on, including a trip to the Planetarium at Royal Observatory Greenwich, and a chance to design and make your own t-shirt, it shouldn’t all be about late nights and hangovers.

Make Your Room Your Base

Your room is your safe space. Add personal touches, photos, plants, fairy lights, and it’ll instantly feel more like you. Having a cosy base makes those first nights away from home a whole lot easier.

Not only can you book into our free events, we also have lots of communities to meet your people on your course and with the same interests.

Don’t Put Pressure on Yourself

Not every friendship is made in the first week. It’s normal to feel a bit lost or homesick at times. Give it time, the right people and routines will fall into place as the term unfolds.

Wherever your Freshers’ Week takes you (parties, societies, late-night walks or quiet coffee spots) the important thing is finding your people and making London feel like home. That’s exactly what life at YourTRIBE is all about.
